Zhongxingbo Secures 4.2GW PV Deal in Saudi Arabia: Chinese Smart Manufacturing Takes Center Stage in Mideast Energy Transition

2025-11-17

Against the dual backdrop of accelerated global energy transition and the booming renewable energy market in the Middle East, Chinese photovoltaic (PV) enterprises have achieved another major success. Recently, Zhongxingbo, a leading enterprise in PV mounting systems, officially signed a cooperation agreement with PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation Limited (referred to as "PowerChina Huadong") for the Saudi PIF6 AFIF 4.2GW PV project. As Zhongxingbo's largest single project globally to date, it not only serves as a benchmark case for the collaborative overseas expansion of China's PV industrial chain but also signifies that Chinese smart manufacturing has taken a central role in the energy transition process of the Middle East.

The signed PIF6 AFIF project is located in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, and consists of two sub-projects: AFIF1 (1.8GW) and AFIF2 (2.4GW). It is a key component of the renewable energy expansion plan under Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030". As a major energy power in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia is promoting the diversification of its energy structure through "Vision 2030", clearly stating its goal to derive 50% of its electricity from clean energy by 2030 and planning to add 58GW of renewable energy installed capacity. The implementation of this 4.2GW PV project will directly provide stable clean power support for central Saudi Arabia, becoming a landmark project for local PV development.

The extreme natural environment in the Middle East poses severe challenges to the implementation of PV projects. Frequent strong winds, sandstorms, local floods, and extreme high temperatures in Saudi Arabia not only test the durability and stability of equipment but also place higher demands on the improvement of power generation efficiency. In response to the specific scenario requirements of the project, Zhongxingbo will customize solutions tailored to the project, mainly adopting its independently developed Tianji Ⅱ tracking system, combined with technological innovations such as "slope-adaptive" design and customized pile foundations, to ensure the project operates efficiently and stably throughout its entire life cycle. This ability to adapt technologies to local needs is one of the core competencies of Chinese PV enterprises in establishing a foothold in overseas markets.

The completion of the project will unleash significant ecological and social value. It is estimated that after putting into operation, the project will generate approximately 9 billion kWh of electricity annually, which is sufficient to meet the clean electricity needs of about 1.5 million Saudi households. It will not only effectively ease the local pressure on power supply but also significantly reduce carbon emissions by replacing traditional fossil fuel power generation, providing solid support for Saudi Arabia to achieve its "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goals. Meanwhile, the implementation of the project will also drive local employment, promote the coordinated development of the upstream and downstream of the PV industrial chain, and lay the foundation for in-depth cooperation between China and Saudi Arabia in the field of new energy.

The acquisition of this major deal is no accident but an inevitable result of Zhongxingbo's long-term efforts in the Middle East. Since 2025, Zhongxingbo has accumulated over 9GW of project cooperation in Saudi Arabia, including several major projects such as SPPC R5-Sadawi (2.3GW), MAS (1.25GW), and AHK2 (500MW), forming a strong regional market dominance. Behind these achievements is the comprehensive service network Zhongxingbo has built in the Middle East – a full-range layout from overseas regional headquarters, R&D centers to production bases. In particular, the recently completed Phase II of the Jeddah production base has increased Zhongxingbo's annual delivery capacity in the Middle East to 15GW, providing solid local support for the efficient execution of the project.

From an industry perspective, the cooperation between Zhongxingbo and PowerChina Huadong is a vivid practice of the "group going global" strategy of China's PV industrial chain. PowerChina Huadong's rich experience in international engineering contracting complements Zhongxingbo's technological advantages in the PV mounting system field. This not only enhances the overall competitiveness of Chinese enterprises in large overseas PV projects but also provides a replicable model for domestic PV enterprises to expand their overseas cooperation landscape. In the context of increasingly fierce competition in the global PV market, this industrial chain synergy will become an important support for China's PV industry to maintain its international leading position.

With the advancement of the Saudi PIF6 AFIF project, Chinese PV enterprises will further deepen their participation in the energy transition process of the Middle East. The landing of Zhongxingbo's 4.2GW project is not only a milestone in the enterprise's own development but also a precise connection between Chinese smart manufacturing and the energy needs of the Middle East, adding a brilliant chapter to global renewable energy cooperation. In the future, driven by both technological innovation and localized services, China's PV industry will undoubtedly play an even more important role in the global energy revolution.
